Can I Cut My Own Hair During Isolation?

Looking after your hair in isolation, Q Hairdressing Salon in West Malling KentDid you know that your hair is only likely to grow half an inch during a whole month? Whatever you do, please do NOT cut your own hair or ask a friend to do it. The results are highly likely to be fairly disastrous – and whilst we are also isolating, we cannot pop round to fix it for you.

Use this time as an opportunity to try out different hairstyles in the comfort of your own home and get your hair looking as healthy as possible.

Check out some tutorial videos on how to style your hair or how to do a professional looking blow dry at home.

Invest in some professional hair masques and apply these regularly to keep your hair moisturised and healthy looking.

Can I Colour My Hair At Home?

We use only the highest quality, professional hair colour in our salon with quality pigments and conditioning agents to protect your colour and condition. It is mixed to complement your skin tone and, especially with highlights, we are likely to use multiple colours to create a bespoke, multi dimensional effect on your hair.

Many shop bought box hair dyes are prone to fading and changing colour, or not looking AT ALL like they do on the box. This is because they are a “one size fits all” colour which don’t take into account your starting colour, natural highlights and hair condition.

We’ve all heard the hair colour horror stories of blonde hair turning brassy or green, darker hair colours ending up an unsightly purple shade and hair being damaged by the box dyes, becoming brittle and snapping.

The common hair colour issues caused by box dyes are notoriously difficult to remove from your hair and you may need a professional hair colour correction once we are open again – this will take both time and money to rectify.

It is also incredibly important to carry out a patch test so that you can ensure you do not have an allergic reaction to any hair colours used. We always insist on patch tests in our salon as your health and safety is our priority.

Use Colour Protecting Products at Home

Is your coloured hair in need of a bit love during this downtime? The Kevin Murphy range of pigment enhancing products revivify colour, restoring it to its beautiful best. Choose from the fabulous ANGEL.WASH range, the world-famous COLOR.BUG for a pop of wash out colour, and SHIMMER.ME for a brilliant shine.

All KEVIN.MURPHY products are sulphate, paraben and cruelty-free, all packed up in recyclable bottles and boxes.

Try A Different Hair Style

When you wear your hair in the same style every day, it can look flat and your roots may look darker than they actually are. Try changing your parting to the other side, or try an eye-catching style to draw attention away from the roots. This is particularly effective on highlighted hair as your natural colour will already have grown through and you can alter the style to disguise the growth. Intricate plaits or even a half up half down bun style would be great for disguising roots.

Try A Kevin Murphy Root Concealer at Home

If your roots are dragging you down during isolation, Kevin Murphy have come to the rescue! RETOUCH.ME is a new growth touch-up spray which allows you to discreetly enhance, retouch or blend away greys, with a dry, satin finish. Micro-fine pigments blend seamlessly with your existing shade to conceal with no flakiness or residue, all the way to your next wash. With a satin finish and a fine mist spray, the result is lightweight, fast drying and completely discreet

Get Creative With Hair Accessories

Hopefully we will all only be in isolation for a few weeks so use this as a time to get creative with your hairstyle. Summer is also a great time to try out headscarves and hats, as you should be keeping your hair protected from the harmful rays of the sun, so now’s the time to channel your inner celeb with a range of cool hair coverings!
